Hi, I’m Phil

I discovered my passion for film as a child, back when I first started shooting with my father’s Super 8 camera. That interest evolved through photography and skateboard videos, eventually leading to my first internship at Maddels-Cameras (a rental house).

After starting out as a clapper loader, I have been working as a freelance focus puller/1st AC since 2005, based in Hamburg and Berlin.

My work focuses on commercials, TV, and feature films. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with renowned production companies and cinematographers on both national and international projects.

How I work:

I’m a team player who loves the collective flow that emerges on a well-going set. That’s why my job begins before the first day of shooting. I work closely with the DoP beforehand to coordinate the right equipment. This ensures the team can focus fully on the creative work on the day of the shoot, resulting in exceptional imagery.

What sets me apart:

A precise hand on the focus wheel, technical expertise and absolute calm under pressure when things get hectic on set. I also enjoy sharing the camera knowledge I’ve gathered over the years with newcomers—giving back what helped me get my own start.

Interested in working together? I look forward to hearing from you!
